This year’s  state Legislative Action Conference (LAC) will require a massive turnout of members. One consensus from the capital is that “we don’t make enough noise”! We need a large group to make sure every legislator gets a visit. At a time when our operating funds are dwindling, we have already sustained two cuts to our state funding. Would you like to endure more cuts, or are you willing to do something about it! Talk to anyone who’s been to LAC. By showing up and visiting your legislators You really do make a difference.

So, please, take a moment right now and mark your calendars, 2009 LAC, February 9th and 10th.  It will be held at the Albany Airport Marriott on Wolf Road.

For those of you who have never been, it will prove to be an experience you will never forget! For those of you who frequently attend, we need you this year more than ever, just to stay the course!

Monday’s agenda, starting with lunch, will be jam-packed. Our lobbyist, Laura Turnblom, from Malkin & Ross, will prepare us for visits with our state senators and assembly persons. She will discuss the mechanics of a legislative visit and how government works. If you’ve never been before, we won’t send you alone, we’ll pair you up with someone experienced in legislative visits. Also, William Campbell, from the Comptroller’s Office will present an interactive session about the up-coming Physical Education and Nutrition Audits the State of New York is doing. Some more preparation on issues and talking points with Laura Turnblom and we’ll conclude the evening with dinner, where the NY Farm Partnership Awards will be presented, and usually a legislator or two turns up.

On Tuesday we will enjoy breakfast and then board the bus for the capital. After a day of legislative visits, we will again board the bus and return to the hotel to debrief our visits over lunch, which will conclude LAC.

Between now and LAC, your legislative team will be preparing the way with visits to key legislators and agencies that have an impact on child nutrition in New York State.
